Effective January 1, 2011, the Commission, together with other Canadian Securities Administrators, are adopting

  • new Form 81-101F3 Contents of Fund Facts Document
  • amendments to National Instrument 81-101 Mutual Fund Prospectus Disclosure, its related forms and companion policy
  • amendments to National Instrument 81-102 Mutual Funds and related companion policy
  • amendments to National Instrument 81-106 Investment Fund Continuous Disclosure and related companion policy
  • amendments to National Instrument 13-101 System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval

(together, the amendments).

Substance and purpose of the amendments
Under the new Form and related amendments, mutual fund companies will be required to prepare a new document, called “Fund Facts”, for each class or series of their mutual funds, and to make it available to the public on a website. The Fund Facts highlight key information for investors, including a description of the fund, and the performance, risks and costs of buying and owning the fund, in a short, easy-to-read document.

Prior publications
We published the amendments for comment on June 19, 2009 (BCN 2009/08). We published advance notice for our proposed adoption of the amendments on October 6, 2010 (BCN 2010/34).
